For Women, Shoes > Men

How so very humbling. According to Telegraph, a survey of more than 1,000 women found that 92 percent of women could remember the first shoes they bought with their own money. By contrast, less than 67 percent of them could remember the name of the person they first kissed. Likewise, 96 percent of women regret having thrown away a pair of shoes sometime in their lives while only 15 percent regret dumping a boyfriend. I mean, I love shoes and all myself but … that just sends chills down my spine. Men: we need to stand together against the enemy known as The Shoe. United, we may yet loosen Its grip on the women we love.

Other interesting tidbits:

  • On average, one woman owns 19 pairs of shoes and only uses 4 pairs regularly.
  • On average, a woman buys 4 new pairs of shoes per year. Hopefully, with Shoe Metro!
  • One in seven women may hide a pair of shoes from their partner/spouse. Men: beware of secret shoe love affairs!

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Andreia Chaves’ ‘Invisible’ Shoes

Shoes are out of control!

This week’s Weird Shoe Wednesdays is dedicated to Andreia Chaves, avant garde footwear designer and creator of the ‘invisible shoe.’ The shoe contains a mirrored surface to create the chameleon-like illusion of invisibility, blending in perfectly with any background it finds itself in, which is certainly an interesting step from Nike’s “Invisible Woman” Fantastic 4-inspired Air Force 1′s. To be fair, this isn’t exactly a “shoe” in the sense that they don’t seem to be made for actual practical use. Rather, this is like an abstract conceptual blueprint, a piece of art meant to provoke the minds of other designers. Still, they are quite clever and very eye-opening.

Check out more conceptual footwear from Chaves as well as some interesting commentary over at Yatzer. Maybe someday, us regular folk will be sporting origami footwear too.

Topshop ‘Sherbert’ Bow Heels

These ‘Sherbert’ Bow heels from Topshop remind me of the Harajuku Lovers ‘Dobson’ bow-tie booties that I saw last week (check them after the jump). But they look much more sensible, very elegant, very attractive. The upper is made of two-toned leather with two bow decorations, one at the vamp, one at the toe. The heel stands 4 inches high. I like them. They pop without being too flashy like the ‘Dobsons’. A nice, calm way to end an otherwise hectic Friday at the office. Alright, enjoy your weekends everybody!

Marathon Training: Choosing the Right Running Shoes

Is it me or does everyone seem to be training for a race these days?

For the past 4 months, I’ve been training for the Silverstrand Half-Marathon taking place this weekend in San Diego. This is my first race ever. And it’s the weirdest thing that as I started training, it seemed like everyone I bumped into was training for a marathon run of some sort. I’ve discovered no less than four friends who are in-training just like me. I don’t know if marathon-running is becoming more popular now or if I just notice it more now that I’m doing it or if maybe our water supply has been contaminated with Gatorade without our knowledge, turning us into fitness addicts.
