Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Diego Dolcini Fanned Zip-Back Sandals

I don’t know about these shoes. These are sandals from Diego Dolcini, hand-made in Italy, with a zip-back, a 4-inch stiletto heel, Swarovski crystals, and this huge pleated fan across the front. I can’t tell if they remind me of an oyster hiding pearls, a peacock flaunting its feathers …… or a race-track patron wearing a hat that imitates a peacock flaunting its feathers. It’s a little too much I think.

What We’re Wearing: Chinese Laundry Magic Garden Sandals

Summer’s winding down but we here at Shoe Metro are very fortunate to be living in San Diego where the sun takes ITS vacation. Our Lead Buyer, Danielle, wanted to share these Chinese Laundry sandals with you. According to Danielle: “I like them because they’re a combination of two really cute sandals. They take the flower from the Chanel Camellia Jelly and put it on the printed footbed of the Valentino Bow Jelly. Plus they’re not $300 or $275 like the Chanels and Valentinos.”

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Force Shoes

So, the ForceShoes below aren’t really made for use for your average person at all. The sandals feature four sensors on the sole that measure the precise force and movements of its wearer. They were developed for medical use for patients in rehab for like paralysis or a stroke or something who basically have to re-learn how to walk.

Clearly, this wasn’t made to look good at all. I know I’m being mean but I can’t get over the Forrest Gump-esque nature of it. The Velcro bands and the fannypack-like waist attachment? Just crazy!

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Brass Knuckle Heels

Wow. There are a lot of brass knuckle heels. I mean if you really want to wear brass knuckles on your footwear, there are no shortage of options available to you. It kinda boggles my mind how many different shapes that brass knuckle pumps come in. I’ve already seen a pair of brass knuckles booties in the past. Little did I know there were brass knuckle mary jane pumps, brass knuckle platform sandals, brass knuckle high-heel slides, and more. Oh heavens …

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Alexander McQueen Floral Wedges

If you wanna go for the Greek mythological deity look, you should check out these floral-sculpted wedge sandals. Designed by Sarah Burton, these wedges come from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 runway collection. These happen to be the single style from the collection available for sale. That is, if you have $3500 laying around. Of course, if you’re a deity whose worshippers offer gifts of money, you might be good in that department. In which case, you can buy the shoes from Neiman Marcus here.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Coloring Pencil Shoes Color While You Walk

Do you want to make your mark on the world? With these shoes, you could do just that. Literally.

These concept women’s sandals by designer Lauren Milroy are sculpted from coloring pencils in such a way so that when you walk, the pencils will draw on the ground. Think of the possibilities: dancing away on the concrete only to leave a beautiful mural in your stead, leaving messages in the sidewalk as you stroll. Although I guess wiping your feet might be an issue.

Are Flip Flops Bad For Your Foot Health?

I just read a story the other day in the Daily Mail about how flip-flop sandals might be hazardous. It definitely makes me re-think my summer attire just a bit. But it’s a good thing we’re moving into Fall fashions soon. Here are some pertinent grabs from the article, which you can read in full here:

“More than 200,000 people visit their GP or even end up in hospital every year after suffering falls or developing long-term problems …

But experts are warning of the dangers of prolonged use, such as the risk of shin splints and joint pains.

They say flip-flops force people to change the way they walk so that when taking a stride they put pressure on the outside of their foot, rather than their heel, causing long-term damage.

And there is also the risk of serious injury from tripping over.

Frequent complaints include twisted ankles, but some have broken their arms or wrists after falling because their flip-flops caught on uneven ground.”

What do you think? Will you be wearing flip-flops less now?

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: From Sneakers to Sandals in an Instant

For those times when you mistakenly wear high-top sneakers only to realize how terribly hot it is outside, you now have the perfect shoe for that occasion. Deemed the Modular Shoes, these shoes convert into a number of different styles thanks to the copious number of zippers embedded into the design. So you want to rock the flip-flop sandals instead of the sneakers after all? A little zip-zip here and there and voila!
