Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Sushi Slippers and Fortune Cookie Baby Booties

Etsy is a haven of handmade oddities and novelties. Check out these neato Sushi Slippers. According to the seller:

“Sushi Slippers are handmade to order with the softest, plushest, fleece. Slippers have a 2″ cushy batting with a weather resistant grippe sole. Removable sushi meat!”

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Giraffe and Zebra-Heeled Sandals

Now on the other of Spring 2011 collections, we have these … beauties from Louis Vuitton. Because after you’ve already made all the great-looking fashion, the only way to be creative is to make something … terribly ugly?

These giraffe- and zebra-shaped high heel sandals are just that. It looks like they came about from the same childhood logic that possesses you to want a race car bed or Dora The Explorer shoes. A link that somehow makes even more sense after seeing the pink/magenta versions below. I may have died a little after seeing this. Thank you, Style Frizz, for shortening my lifespan.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Alexander McQueen Floral Wedges

If you wanna go for the Greek mythological deity look, you should check out these floral-sculpted wedge sandals. Designed by Sarah Burton, these wedges come from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 runway collection. These happen to be the single style from the collection available for sale. That is, if you have $3500 laying around. Of course, if you’re a deity whose worshippers offer gifts of money, you might be good in that department. In which case, you can buy the shoes from Neiman Marcus here.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Madonna Cone Bra Heels

If you’ve ever wanted to feel “like a virgin,” you could try out these Madonna-inspired pumps. The heel-less ‘Blond Ambition’ pumps take their name from Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour in 1990 when she first debuted the now-iconic cone bra outfit to perform “Like A Virgin.” You can see these pumps have pretty much everything: the hair, the bra, corset-like lacing, and even a microphone acting as a sort of mary jane strap.

From Kobi Levi, who you might remember for several other novelty designs.

Weird Shoe Wednesday: Measuring Tape Sandals

Are you constantly worried about your feet growing to humongous size? Here’s a solution: wrap them in measuring tape so you can check up on them on the fly!

Strangely, these sandals from Christian Louboutin are called “Police” when they clearly have nothing to do with law enforcement and everything to do with sewing. The patent leather straps are printed to look like measuring tape and then connected to a stiletto heel. It’s got this whole Andy Warhol/Marilyn Monroe-ish vibe to it, very pop-arty.

What do you think? Do these measure up to your standards of chic?

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Dino Heels from Maco Custodio

We can all appreciate the greatness of the Jurassic Park movies. But you know what the franchise has been sorely missing? Designer shoes!

Filipino designer Maco Custodio’s new Dino collection answers the call. These shoes are all inspired by different prehistoric creatures. The ‘Rhino’ peep-toe pumps feature an oversized mudguard that works as the huge rhinoceros horn and nose. The ‘Tri-heel-atops’ pumps trump those with three wrapped heels and a tail accent. Finally, the ‘Deinony-shus’ heels portray the ferocity of the velociraptor to a tee. Hopefully, the shoes aren’t quite as carnivorous as their prehistoric counterparts.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Nike Back To School Shoes

And to piggyback onto last week’s Back To School theme, we should revisit Nike’s Back To School series of shoes. Nike originally released these shoes in 2007. As you can see, each of these shoes are modeled after an iconic school item: Mead marble notebooks, Crayola crayons, and Elmer’s Glue.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Pencil Me In Flats

The holidays are over and school is back in session this week. And just in time for school we have these Pencil Me In flats from Jeffrey Campbell, perfect for filling out those Scantrons (okay, not really). These leather flats feature a pink eraser heel, yellow body, and cream toe with a black point. They’re very quirky but actually still wearable. What do you think?

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Confetti Pumps

New Year’s Eve is around the corner which means its just about time to break out the confetti. If you want to break out the confetti on your feet, these pumps will do the trick. These high-heeled pumps from Harumi Watanabe are covered in multi-colored sequins and also multi-colored glitter, creating a confetti-like look to celebrate the new year. Although the celebration might stop once you realize that you’re actually wearing these terribly ugly shoes. Ouch!
