Coming Soon: Irregular Choice Shoes for Graduation

Our Buying Department has been really kicking butt lately. In an effort to let them get a little braggy with the great shoes they’ve been buying–and also to give customers a sneak peek into what we have in store just around the corner–we’ve started our new Coming Soon feature.

To kick things off, we just got our first batch of Irregular Choice shoes in this week. As you can guess from the name, these aren’t your run-of-the-mill everyday shoes. These pumps pop with Alice In Wonderland-esque personality and pizzazz. While they may be a little overwhelming for everyday use, our Assistant Buyer Jessica believes these will be perfect for graduation day. Since everyone is forced to wear the same cap and gown outfit, the only way to stand out from the crowd is with your shoes. And you’ll definitely be able to turn some heads with these wild shoes.

Be on the lookout for Irregular Choice shoes at our store in the near future.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: High Heel Shoe Phone

In case you were ever a fan of the Get Smart series from the ’60s but wanted your own female version of Agent 86′s shoe phone, here’s a phone for you. It’s funny to think how nowadays, this is a double novelty item. On top of being a phone in the shape of a high heel shoe, it’s a corded phone, which is basically an antique at this point.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: LEG-GO Stilettos

Like the perfect marriage of boys being boys and girls wanting to be women, artist/sculptor Finn Stone has created these LEG-GO Stiletto heels for the Spring 2011 season. As you can see, the upper is made of Lego blocks but thankfully the insole and outsole are not (just imagine the ouchies if they were). Stone plans to make only a dozen pairs of these. You can snag one for yourself (or one of your children, hah) by contacting Stone directly from his website.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Fruity Pumps and Fruity Flats

In case you’ve been skimping on your daily fix of fruits and vegetables, these pumps and flats just might have you covered in that department. These pumps and flats come from Charlotte Olympia with leather and suede uppers in a delectable mix of bananas, strawberries, watermelon, and pineapple. Though maybe it’d be easier on your purse just have a V8 instead: the Charlotte Olympia pumps go for a shade under $1,700; the flats for $945. Whew!

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Kobi Levi’s Bird Pumps

As if dinosaur shoes and giraffe heels weren’t enough, Kobi Levi has thrown his hat into the “shoes that look like animals” ring. His latest series of creations, the Bird Series, mimics a duck, a swan, and a toucan using each bird’s beak as the heel. With the bird theme, maybe these high heels should instead be called high flying heels. *rimshot*

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Olive Oyl Heels (But No Popeye)

Once again, Kobi Levi goes and weirds us out with one of his creations. Continuing his tribute to classic female icons as he did with his Madonna pumps, Levi presents the Olive Oyl heels. His Olive Oyl heels are, of course, inspired by Olive Oyl of Popeye fame. Levi smartly mimics Olive Oyl’s hairbun and neckline with the shoes. If he had designed the shoes around her toothpick of a body, the shoes would probably be extra, extra, EXTRA narrow (something like AAAAA width). Hopefully, someone follows up with a pair of Popeye shoes, though I wonder how his ginormous forearms would translate into footwear.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Super Pointy Mexican Rodeo Boots

In Matahuala, Mexico, a phenomenon called botas vaqueras exóticas has taken hold of young rodeo dancers. As Vice Magazine reports:

“The exotic boots are made by modifying boring normal ones with materials bought in local hardware and craft stores. The fanciest are adorned with LED lights or mirrors, while others incorporate paint and every color of sequins. They all get the glitter treatment no matter what. It was explained to us that some boots have measured upward of five feet in length.”

I wonder if any of our cowboy boots have ever been modified into these boots. More after the jump: Continue Reading…

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Stiletto Heel Table

Who loves stiletto heels? Who wants more of their furniture to resemble those dangerously high, dangerously spiky heels? Now you can have all your dreams fulfilled.

This is a limited edition desk (only eight made) actually named Stiletto. The stiletto-shaped leg is sculpted from stacked walnut. The table’s underbelly features polished red acrylic for a chic touch. Hidden grooves allow you access to red leather-lined drawers. The tabletop is French Burr Walnut veneer with or without inlaid leather. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this in “Lifestyle of the Rich And Famous” or some less outdated version of that show.

Jimmy Choo Wins The Oscars Shoe Game

The one thing that didn’t get nearly enough attention at this year’s Oscars was the footwear. No one could really be blamed, seeing as all the stars seemed aligned in their determination to hide beautiful heels and pumps behind long, overflowing dresses. However, the wonderful bloggers at Your Next Shoes were able to peak behind the dresses (somehow–I think we’d rather not know how, actually) and find out what the Red Carpet elite were swagging out with this year. And it turns out that several of them chose Jimmy Choo, making Jimmy Choo the big winner in the unofficial “Best Shoes” category at the Oscars.
