Reebok ‘Year of the Tiger’ Sneakers

New Year’s Day has passed but the Lunar New Year is still ahead (this year, it just happens to land on February 14 …… feisty lovers are sure to be on the prowl). The Lunar New Year in 2010 will mark the Year of the Tiger and Reebok is celebrating by releasing these tiger-inspired sneakers.

The first is the black Pump Omni Lite with sleek, glossy black over matte black tiger stripes and gold liner and embroidery for extra pop. The second is the Pump Fury with glossy red stripes against black matte textile material. Both look really fierce and while the Pump Fury actually resembles a tiger much more, I’d much rather wear the ninja-like Pump Omni Lites because …… well, who wouldn’t rather be a ninja than a tiger?

Check out some close-ups and different angles after the jump, courtesy of NiceKicks.com.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Nina Ricci ‘Turtle Dove’ Booties & Holiday Sweater Converse

I realize that Christmas was last week and Hanukkah ended the week before but Kwanzaa is still upon us so dang it, I’m still keeping my holiday spirit, thank you very much!

This week for Weird Shoe Wednesday, we have two pairs of holiday-themed shoes. The first choice (the good-looking choice) is a pair of shearling ankle boots from Nina Ricci (above) featuring a beautiful perspex heel that shimmer like a frozen winter icicle. If you look more closely, the heel is actually sculpted into the shape of two turtle doves in flight. They are very elegant and just a little bit …… poetic, I think. What better way to walk into the new year (and new decade!) than with hope lifting your feet?

The second choice is this pair of knitted Converse hi-top Chucks that remind me of those ugly holiday sweaters that my mom or aunt or someone or other would make me wear when I was small. The wool uppers are hand-knit and then hand-stitched onto the canvas uppers of the All-Star Chucks. Courtesy of PrettySneaky at Etsy.com. Check them out after the jump.

Sex and the City II Trailer + Shoes

A trailer and some pics for the Sex and the City II movie were released recently and, more importantly, kim of Shoeaholics Anonymous got a pretty good read of some of the shoes Carrie sports at various points in the movie.

According to kim:

  1. I’m pretty sure these are Christian Louboutin Leopard Pumps. I can’t tell if hers are peep-toe or not, so they could also be Christian Louboutin Pigalle Pony Fur Pumps. But I think they definitely have the signature CL red sole.
  2. These look similar to Christian Louboutin Cap-Toe T-Strap d’Orsay pumps, but the reference sites I found all seem to be replica CL’s. My guess is that at least one of her pairs of shoes will have been designed especially for the movie and will not be made available to the public until after the movie is a hit. They may even be Chanel, as Chanel is highly known for cap-toes.
  3. These are definitely Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Sneakers.

Kudos to kim for having such a great eye. Trailer after the jump, because I know everyone’s giddy with excitement!

Happy Holidays from Shoe Metro!

No weird shoes today. Instead, just some tidings of great joy to everyone out there from your friends at Shoe Metro. The pic above comes from our company’s first-ever Holiday Cruise aboard the Hornblower cruise ship. It was a night of fine dining, finer spirits, and sorta-embarassing but super-awesome forays onto the dance floor, much to the delight of the other passengers who watched on in disbelief and merriment. Quite a step up from last year’s exotic excursion into the local Souplantation.

Come check out more pics after the jump and also at our Facebook page, courtesy of our resident photographer-extraordinaire, Jenny.

For Women, Shoes > Men

How so very humbling. According to Telegraph, a survey of more than 1,000 women found that 92 percent of women could remember the first shoes they bought with their own money. By contrast, less than 67 percent of them could remember the name of the person they first kissed. Likewise, 96 percent of women regret having thrown away a pair of shoes sometime in their lives while only 15 percent regret dumping a boyfriend. I mean, I love shoes and all myself but … that just sends chills down my spine. Men: we need to stand together against the enemy known as The Shoe. United, we may yet loosen Its grip on the women we love.

Other interesting tidbits:

  • On average, one woman owns 19 pairs of shoes and only uses 4 pairs regularly.
  • On average, a woman buys 4 new pairs of shoes per year. Hopefully, with Shoe Metro!
  • One in seven women may hide a pair of shoes from their partner/spouse. Men: beware of secret shoe love affairs!

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Andreia Chaves’ ‘Invisible’ Shoes

Shoes are out of control!

This week’s Weird Shoe Wednesdays is dedicated to Andreia Chaves, avant garde footwear designer and creator of the ‘invisible shoe.’ The shoe contains a mirrored surface to create the chameleon-like illusion of invisibility, blending in perfectly with any background it finds itself in, which is certainly an interesting step from Nike’s “Invisible Woman” Fantastic 4-inspired Air Force 1′s. To be fair, this isn’t exactly a “shoe” in the sense that they don’t seem to be made for actual practical use. Rather, this is like an abstract conceptual blueprint, a piece of art meant to provoke the minds of other designers. Still, they are quite clever and very eye-opening.

Check out more conceptual footwear from Chaves as well as some interesting commentary over at Yatzer. Maybe someday, us regular folk will be sporting origami footwear too.

Moschino ‘Poinsettia’ Heels for the Holidays

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was pretty hectic as I scrambled to wrap gifts with all the grace of a rhinoceros. But isn’t that what the holidays are all about: scrambling around like a fool for the sake of your loved ones?

Anyway, feast your holiday eyes on these heels from Moschino. It’s got a real cute two-tiered petal-shaped ankle strap that drapes over your foot a little bit. It definitely reminded me of beautiful red poinsettias, which should be out in full force for the holiday season. The heels also have a back zipper closure, leather lining, and smooth leather outsole. If you can find a pair, they’d be great for all your holiday parties.

Reebok Pump Omni Lite – Winter 2009 Releases

You guys will just have to put up with my sneaker obsession a little bit more. Reebok is releasing another set of colorways for their popular Pump Omni Lite kicks. There are four new colorways. The green/brown shoes have kind of a boot-like feel with the metal d-rings and the earthy tones. The standout is the lumberjack-inspired shoe, green with red and black plaid (this must be Reebok’s way of going green). There are also two grey colorways which are more low-key.

Check out a slew of close-ups after the jump (via Sneaker Obsession).

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Maria Blaisse x Camper ‘Crescent’ boots

This week’s Weird Shoe Wednesdays goes to Maria Blaisse, the avant-garde Dutch artist behind the wonderful boots above. These boots are part of Camper’s Camper Together series of collaborations with various artists, sculptors, and designers. Dazed & Confused magazine notes that Blaisse has been experimenting with spherical forms in design since the early ’80s, which must’ve had a lot to do with how these boots came out. They’re an odd pair of boots but I can imagine some women being able to pull it off really beautifully in an uber-cool slouch boot fashion.
