Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Nike Footstickers

For those of you who love the barefoot experience, check out these Nike Footstickers. These are a concept design created by Dutch designer Friek Severs for Nike. The idea is to provide all the freedom of the barefoot experience while minimizing the risk of injury. Stepping on a bed of nails is still probably out of the question. But the added traction can prevent you from slipping or twisting an ankle.

Each of these is sets of footstickers are designed for a specific activity. The above footstickers are supposed to be used for yoga. Below, you can see footstickers for cardio training and then dance. Thanks to Behance Network for the pics/info.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Sneakers as Ceramic Art by Kang S. Lee

Kang S. Lee, a Korean artist based in Mexico City, has created a collection of sculptures paying tribute to the iconic Nike Dunk shoes. He’s very enthralled by sneaker culture, calling it “one of the most exciting and fast-changing phenomena in youth culture today.”

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Teva Stilettos … for hiking?

I try to be careful not to just find the ugliest shoes in the world and post them. But these Teva stiletto heels … there’s just so much wrong, it’s hard to know where to start.

These Teva high heel sandals are a collaboration between Teva and New York fashion designer Grey Ant, known for “subverting trends with a measure of the ironic,” according to New High (M)art. This design basically sticks a high heel onto one of Teva’s classic sport sandals.

Let’s ignore for a moment the shoe’s questionable aesthetic appeal. Let’s focus instead on the promo pics below:

Really? Women are not only expected to trim weeds in these stilettos (and apparently without pants), but they can go mountain climbing in them as well. And in fuzzy socks, no less! This is just too much.

Weird Shoe Thursdays: Facebook and Twitter Shoes from Adidas

Apologies again for my tardiness. It’s been extremely busy around the offices. But really, any day is a great day to check out weird shoes.

If you really wanted to shout your zeal for social media, check out these Facebook and Twitter shoes which I snagged from BuzzFeed. So far, these are only conceptual designs but they certainly look legitimate enough for production. These are designed by Gerry Mckay for Adidas. Each shoe is a take on the iconic Adidas Superstar shell-toe kicks. They feature Facebook and Twitter’s respective colorways as well as signature details such as Facebook’s tagline/slogan printed on the inner collar and the Twitter bird icon.

Happy Shoe Metro Customers on Youtube

Check out two vloggers on Youtube who came away with big shoe hauls and big savings, courtesy of Shoe Metro. The first vlogger is Eclecticldy, who came away with four pairs of shoes for just about $110 total (including shipping).

If you’re interested, we actually still have two of the shoes that she purchased in-stock: the Marc Fisher Vendra heels and the International Concepts Relle heels.

Don’t forget to also check out freegurl76′s Shoemetro HAUL video. She was able to snag SIX pairs of shoes for $255. She was just ecstatic.

If you want to brag about your collection from Shoe Metro, we’d love to hear about it. You can post a video like these beautiful ladies or you can post a picture at our Shoe Metro Facebook page.

Sanrio continues its 50th Anniversary celebration with the oddest shoe collaborations. We saw the Dr. Martens x Hello Kitty flash drives before. Check out these plush, furry shoes done in collaboration with Reebok. They feature a furry upper in signature Hello Kitty colors with the Hello Kitty bow. The outsoles have a picture of Hello Kitty too. If you ever wanted to scream your fanatic love for all things Hello Kitty, these Reeboks are the way to go.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Lions and Rhinos and Elephants, Oh My!

The Bench: Uncut fashion show took place months ago back in July, which makes us extremely late to the party (oops). The show employed a number of top designers from Dubai. And the shoes were extravagantly … something. While I can appreciate the artisanship at work in these ornate platforms, from afar, they remind me of Lady Gaga’s meat outfit. Not exactly a delicious sight, at least to me.

To check out more pics, head to Style Bible which covered the entire event. What do you think of these shoes? Totally beautiful? Too much?

Weird Shoe Fridays: Paper Shoes

It’s been a long time! Sorry for being away so long. It’s been extra, extra busy in the office trying to prepare for the upcoming holidays. But I couldn’t leave this week without showing you some more quirky shoe-ish things.

These are cardboard sculptures by artist Mike Leavitt. Leavitt is a big fan of sneaker culture so many of his sculptures are paper re-creations of iconic sneakers. But he’s also expanded into other territories, making a boot and women’s heel as well. Here are some of my favorites below. Be sure to look at all of his sculptures on his website here. You can even buy some for yourself! =)

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: More Spikes, Hair Braids, and Shoes

Although the previous spiky shoes win for volume of spikes, today’s pairs of spiky shoes win in length. Imagine being impaled by one of these bad boys. Ouch!

These shoes come from Danish designer, Barbara Gongini. There are also some boots below that look more like a hair wig than anything else. It could possibly double as your next Halloween costume.
