In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Dr. Marten’s has released these limited edition USB flash drives in the shape of one of Dr. Marten’s classic boot designs. The flash drives stand about 2 inches tall and have a memory capacity of 2GB. Unfortunately, these boots cannot actually be worn, hah.

These concept women’s sandals by designer Lauren Milroy are sculpted from coloring pencils in such a way so that when you walk, the pencils will draw on the ground. Think of the possibilities: dancing away on the concrete only to leave a beautiful mural in your stead, leaving messages in the sidewalk as you stroll. Although I guess wiping your feet might be an issue.

Blogger Marisa Lynch has been making a huge splash with her blog, New Dress A Day. The idea is that she would put her amazing powers of thrift-store shopping and sewing magic to use, making a new dress each day out of hideous thrift store finds.

Each post starts with a “Before” shot of Marisa in her ugly thrift apparel. She then walks us through her process of cutting, stitching, and sewing before she unveils another fabulous new dress in the “After” shot.

Already on Day 267, Marisa has thus far only spent $266 on materials. It’s a great testament to Do-It-Yourself fashion and fashionistas.

I have absolutely no information on these shoes besides what you can observe with your very eyes. These are flower pots shaped like high-heel stiletto platforms. As you can see they do hold all sorts of plants. The large platform midsole holds the soil and the roots and the plant, of course, grows from there.If your garden needs a little jolt of style, you can add one of these flower pots to spice things up.

A Spanish label, Loewe, will release this bag below: basically, a leather version of what we all know as paper grocery bags from the supermarket. The idea is that handbags have become too flashy and in the climate of an economic recession, flashy doesn’t look good. This is Loewe’s attempt to strip down bags to pure simplicity and practicality. Hence this:

I don’t know. Yeah, it makes sense that we’d revert back to minimalism in the midst of a recession. But this is only reflecting the reality of our economy in style. This leather grocery bag lookalike will still go for $1,045. It seems just a little bit bizarre, right?

While this isn’t about any particular shoe, I thought it was curious enough to warrant a “Weird Shoe Wednesday” post.

There’s a tree in Middlegate, Nevada on US Highway 50 that has somehow come to accumulate hundreds–if not thousands–of pairs of shoes on its branches and even on the floor, enough for it to be named The Shoe Tree. Of course, the shoes come from tourists and passers-by who contribute their own shoes to the monument. But just how it all started is a mystery.

Local legends vary but the two most popular stories both involve an argument between a married couple. In one scenario, a newlywed couple returning from Reno got in an argument during which the husband throws his wife’s shoes onto the tree. After a short time, they make up but the wife insists then that he throw his shoes too as a sign of unity.

In the other popular story, a newlywed couple gets into a spat, leading to the husband ditching the wife at the tree to have a drink at the local pub. When he returns, she throws his shoes onto the tree.

A popular variation of the second story sees the newlywed couple returning to the tree years later. After they had a baby together, they added a pair of baby booties to the tree. And those adorable booties are apparently what inspired so many others to add to the shoe tree.

But then they got the idea to dress as twins unannounced and see who would even notice. It took until 2pm in the afternoon before anyone noticed (I was the winner, thank you very much =D). After that, we had a mini-photo shoot in our warehouse, full of various shenanigans.

I just read a story the other day in the Daily Mail about how flip-flop sandals might be hazardous. It definitely makes me re-think my summer attire just a bit. But it’s a good thing we’re moving into Fall fashions soon. Here are some pertinent grabs from the article, which you can read in full here:

“More than 200,000 people visit their GP or even end up in hospital every year after suffering falls or developing long-term problems …

But experts are warning of the dangers of prolonged use, such as the risk of shin splints and joint pains.

They say flip-flops force people to change the way they walk so that when taking a stride they put pressure on the outside of their foot, rather than their heel, causing long-term damage.

And there is also the risk of serious injury from tripping over.

Frequent complaints include twisted ankles, but some have broken their arms or wrists after falling because their flip-flops caught on uneven ground.”
