Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Spiky Shoes Will Leave A Mark

These shoes are all very scary. Can you imagine literally getting kicked in the butt by someone wearing one of these spiky shoes? That kick would definitely leave some scarring. These are like brass knuckles for your feet (as opposed to brass knuckles ON your feet). Heaven help us if these ever become popular and women walk around everywhere with deadly weapons at their disposals.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Architectural Shoes from Balenciaga

These architectural shoes were designed by Pierre Hardy for Parisian art house, Balenciaga. The shoes were unveiled earlier this year as part of Balenciaga’s latest Fall/Winter collection. Hardy took classic styles like loafers, oxfords, and booties and constructed these shoes using a variety of different materials including leather, wood, plastic, metal, and other synthetics.

The Mysterious Origins of Blue Jeans

I just read a very interesting article about the origins of everyone’s favorite wardrobe staple, blue jeans.

Paintings from an anonymous 17th-century Italian artist have just turned up featuring a blue fabric that very much resembles classic blue jeans. This anonymous artist has been dubbed “The Master of the Blue Jeans” for his recurring use of blue jeans in his paintings. The paintings would date the existence of blue jeans as far back as 1655 when the paintings were created.

Before now, there had only been shaky evidence that jeans go back to the mid-17th century. Historians had traced the origins of jeans back to either the French city of Nimes (“de Nimes” becomes “denim”) or Genoa, Italy (“Genoa” is “Genes” in French, which becomes “jeans”). Now there is more concrete proof for the latter.

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Horse Hoof Heels

German designer, Iris Schieferstein, seems to have a weird fetish for using dead animals’ body parts to create her shoes. Of course, many shoes are already made of dead animal skin–leather. But Schieferstein’s seems more the work of a taxidermist than a cobbler. Check out her infamous Hoof Heels below.

As if that weren’t enough, she added guns as stiletto heels to the equestrian monstrosity, as if taking a cue from the previously mentioned Chanel Gun Heels.

And if you thought that horses were the only animals harmed in Schieferstein’s world of design, here are her latest ‘Temptation’ heels. They bring new meaning to the term ‘pigeon-toed.’

Lady Gaga Wears Meat, McQueen, and Spikes at the 2010 MTV VMAs

Lady Gaga will never cease to turn heads with her daring fashion sense. At last night’s MTV VMA’s, Lady Gaga donned three different outfits that seemed to compete with each other for the Most Outrageous Outfit of the night.

The most talked-about dress is Gaga’s meat dress, below:

When walking the red carpet earlier that evening, Gaga wore a dress designed by the late Alexander McQueen. It looked a little like the ceiling from the Sistene Chapel. What the pic doesn’t show is that she was also wearing the famous Armadillo heels from her “Bad Romance” music video. Check it out after the jump: Continue Reading…

Manolo Blahnik x Timberland Boots at New York Fashion Week

More news on odd collaborations. Yesterday, we saw Hello Kitty Dr. Marten’s boots and shoes. Today, I’ve spotted these high-heeled Timberland boots, a collaboration between Manolo Blahnik and Timberland. It seems that rugged-chic will be a huge trend in the Fall season.

These Manolo Blahnik Timberland boots are extremely limited. They’re available only at the Manolo Blahnik store in New York and only during New York Fashion Week (or until they’re all gone). And they are going for a whopping $1,050.

If you had $1,050 lying around and you lived in New York, would you sport these?

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Hello Kitty x Dr. Martens Shoes

Wow, Dr. Marten’s is really going all out for their 50th anniversary. Last week, we saw their limited edition Dr. Marten’s flash drives. This week, I ran across these collaborations between Dr. Martens and Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty that also happens to be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Hello Kitty-themed Mary Janes and boots both feature Hello Kitty’s signature bow and a Hello Kitty-Sanrio logo detail on the footbed. Check them out:

Are there any Hello Kitty fans out there? What do you think of these shoes?

Weird Shoe Wednesdays: Dr. Marten’s Flash Drives

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Dr. Marten’s has released these limited edition USB flash drives in the shape of one of Dr. Marten’s classic boot designs. The flash drives stand about 2 inches tall and have a memory capacity of 2GB. Unfortunately, these boots cannot actually be worn, hah.
